George D. Klein

Photograph of Dr. George D. Klein

George earned degrees in geology from Wesleyan University (BA), Kansas (MS) and Yale (PhD.). His expertise is in Clastic Facies and Reservoirs (Deepwater, Deltas, Fluvial), Clastic Reservoir Characterization, Sequence Stratigraphy, Basin Analysis and Framework Geology. Basins with which he has experience as a consultant include the Gulf Coast, Illinois, Appalachian, Arkoma, Powder River, Reconcavo, and Maracaibo basins. He published 281 refereed articles, books and abstracts on these topics.

He worked as a Research Geologist for Sinclair Research and then taught at the Universities of Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania. He joined the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1970 where he was a Full Professor from 1972 until 1993. After directing a marine consortium for three years, he opened a full time geological consulting practice (SED-STRAT Geoscience Consultants, Inc.) in the petroleum field in May, 1996.

George received nine honors and awards including the Outstanding Paper Award in the Journal of Sedimentary Petrology (SEPM; 1972) a Senior Research Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences, and a Senior Fulbright Research Fellowship in the Netherlands.

Tom Bakewell, Lead Geophysicist

Tom earned a B.Sc degree in Geology from the Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute, Troy, NY and completed a year of graduate work there. He has over twenty-five years of broad geophysical experience in hydrocarbon and mineral exploration, reservoir evaluation, mapping and development using integrated interpretation methods to provide geologic answers. He has a strong computer applications and modeling background, including both workstation and PC interpretation and modeling skills. UNIX applications include Landmark's Seisworks, SeisCube and SurfCube, GeoQuest STATIX and Datam, GeoGraphix, and specialized seismic modeling software.

He acquired extensive interpretive experience with onshore and offshore data in clastic and carbonate provinces. Areas worked include Maracaibo basin, the pre-Caspian basin in Kazakstan, South China Sea, offshore Louisiana and Texas Miocene and Plio-Pliestocene trends, Gulf Coast Smackover trend and interior salt basin, Texas Wilcox and Frio, and the lower Tuscaloosa trend.

He worked with Pennzoil Company, Santa Fe Energy Company, and as Geophysical Manager for Aegis Energy, Inc. Currently he is working on a Reservoir Characterization project as a lead geophysicist. His expatriate background makes him indispensable in international, cross cultural and multiethnic situations.
